What is Life of Adventure

Life of Adventure, simply put, is a vision that I believe God gave me (Jeremy) in the summer of 1997 when I was "searching for myself" while hiking out in Glacier National Park, Montana. So, first and foremost, I believe that Life of Adventure is really a God thing. I truly believe that God is inviting, calling, and challenging everyone of us to enter into a deeper relationship with Himself which truly is a Life of Adventure!

More specifically, Life of Adventure is an awesome opportunity for high school students to explore, traverse, and dive into some of God's most beautiful creation in the summer. Each trip will be lead by at least two adult leaders.

Throughout the journey together, we will be experiencing backcountry hiking and camping, day hikes, time in God's word, personal and group sharing, learning how to share your faith, how to effectively read and study the Bible, leadership training, and much more.

Who Can Go

Life of Adventure is a trip for high school students who really have a desire to live life to its fullest. Really, the only requirements are that you are a high school student (or just graduated) and that you desire to grow, learn and be challenged!

The mornings will consist of time in reading and discussing the Bible. The afternoons will consist of day hikes, free time and other adventures (like white water rafting down the Snake River). The evenings will consist of campfires, S'Mores, sharing, and guy/girl time.

All of the LOA trips that you will be participating in (LOA I, II & III) have a 3-day, 2-night backpacking trip into the Teton backcountry and a white water rafting trip with Mad River (rafting company with 30+ years of experience).

LOA I - There are 7 spots available for college students & seniors in high school. The 12 college students participating in the College Summer Project will also be taking part in this trip. A full trip will consist of 21 people (12 college summer project students, 7 LOA I students and 2 adult leaders).

LOA II* - There are 12 total spots available for guys and girls in high school for LOA II, the coed high school trip. Camping in both the frontcountry and backcountry, day hikes, guy/girl time in the evening, sharing life stories around the campfire and much more.

LOA III* - There are 14 total spots available for guys in high school for LOA II, the All Guy's high school trip. Camping in both the frontcountry and backcountry, day hikes, guy time in the evening, sharing life stories around the campfire and much more. The All Guy's trip will be more difficult in terms of the hiking then the LOA II coed trip.

*There will be an added feature to LOA II & III. There will be 12 college students helping to give leadership to these 2 high school trips through the College Summer Project.

Frontcountry

This is what most people consider "camping". Camping in the frontcountry is typically done at well establisehd campsites that have bathrooms close by, running water, etc.

Backcountry

This is what real "camping" is all about. Camping in the backcountry consists of packing all of your food, supplies, and equipment into overnight packs and heading off on foot. During the backcountry portion of the trip, we will leave our extra gear and clothes that we will not be needing in the vehichles. There will be no need to carry everything that you bring with you into the backcountry.

Traveling Details

You are expected to arrive at the Salt Lake City Airport no later than 2:00 pm on the first day of the trip.

LOA I: Monday, July 12th; LOA II & III: Wednesday, July 21st

In other words, you are responsible for your airfare to and from Salt Lake City Airport or arranging other transportation. From there we will be driving to the Grand Tetons National Park. The drive will take about 4.5 hours so be prepared for a long day of travel.

One of the leaders will meet you in the baggage claim area.

The 2nd to last day of the trip we will travel back to Salt Lake City and camp at a KOA (Kampground of America) that night. Therefore, the last day of the scheduled trip will simply be the flight back home. In scheduling your airfare feel free to get a return flight as early as 6:00 a.m.

LOA I: Tuesday, July 20th; LOA II & III: Thursday, July 29th
