Dates - Summer 2010

College Summer Project - July 12th-30th - 19 days

Cost

$1,000 will cover the cost of the 19-day summer project.

Since you are coming to help serve and lead high school students, you are permitted to raise 100% of the cost of the summer project (except for the $100 deposit which you must pay for yourself - so you will raise $900 and pay $100 yourself). Once accepted, you will receive intructions on how to raise support for the summer project.

This includes airfare (up to $350), food, two white water rafting trips, camping fees, vehichle rental, gas, National Park entrance fees, and a LOA t-shirt.

You will be responsible for providing a sleeping bag, a daypack (small backpack like a school backpack), and a overnight backpack.

Traveling Details

You are expected to arrive at the Salt Lake City Airport no later than 2 pm on the first day of the trip - Monday, July 12th.

One of the leaders will meet you in the baggage claim area.

In scheduling your airfare feel free to get a return flight as early as 7:00 a.m. on Friday, July 30th.

LOA Itinerary

The mornings will consist of time in God's word. The afternoons will consist of day hikes, free time and other adventures (like white water rafting down the Snake River). The evenings will consist of campfires, S'Mores, sharing, and guy/girl time.

During LOA I, you will participate with the other students (college and seniors in high school). This is your training time. We will be reading Tim Keller's The Reason for God. It is an excellent book that will help everyone to be able to better communicate the Gospel in our postmodern culture as well as be better equiped to give an answer for why we believe in God, the Bible and Jesus Christ.

During LOA II & III, which take place at the same time, you will help give leadership to the high school students by helping to lead the morning Bible Study and the evening discussion time.

Not only will you help lead high school students while on the trip, you will also help recruit students to go.

Frontcountry

This is what most people consider "camping". Camping in the frontcountry is typically done at well establisehd campsites that have bathrooms close by, running water, etc.

Backcountry

This is what real "camping" is all about. Camping in the backcountry consists of packing all of your food, supplies, and equipment into overnight packs and heading off on foot. During the backcountry portion of the trip, we will leave our extra gear and clothes that we will not be needing in the vehichles. There will be no need to carry everything that you bring with you into the backcountry.
